We've got the guy who created the iconic Obama image being charged for making a mess on property.

For a while, I have felt like I should be paying more attention to http://www.michaelgeist.ca/.

My friend Mark Surman is big on the creative commons, and blogs about it.
http://commonspace.typepad.com/. He also Tweets - http://twitter.com/msurman.

He is the executive director of the Mozilla Foundation.

I've got other thoughts, but right now, the main one is "Sleepy." Not the subject matter. My own state of being.

yes, he's a pretty good guy (for a lawyer) and I enjoy his insights into how the freedoms of digital culture are offset by current law enforcement. As for the future, his latest book "Remix Culture:Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy" spotlights how the youth of today are frequently criminalized for their creative actions. His concept of a "read-write" culture where we can create and consume is spot on!

yay, another Lawrence Lessig reader! I really appreciate his book "The Future of Ideas" for history of how the WWW began (as all open source and free - free sharing of ideas plus imagining information-sharing as a cost-free venture). it's also a great book for looking at business ventures which offer a free set of services plus a second set of services that generate income (such as Skype).

where we go from that free/open beginning is, of course, is a long & ongoing discussion, which is what you're getting at here - and what corps are getting at too. I'll be looking forward to your comments since I'm interested in seeing what newspapers in particular are going to do with this economic downturn killing off some, shrinking others.
